Minor Injuries after Hard Landing, Fire in Delta Plane Landing in Atlanta

ATLANTA - A plane making a landing at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport blew a tire causing one of the rear engines to catch fire. Officials are reporting only minor injuries after the passengers were forced to make an emergency evacuation of the plane on an airport ramp.
FOX 5 witnessed the event unfolding live as fire crews used foam spray to douse the flame in the rear of MD-88 just shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday. The plane ended up on a ramp just off of Runway 8L, the northern most runway at the five runway airport.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Kathleen Bergen said Delta flight 2284 from Pittsburgh was landing in Atlanta when its tire blew. This started the fire. Passengers were evacuated by using the emergency slides and the backstairs.
A Delta spokesperson told FOX 5 News that all 43 passengers and 5 crew members aboard were bused back to the terminal after being evacuated from the plane. They are still gathering more information on the incident.
The FAA and NTSB will be investigating the incident.
